Most people know that you can get your driver’s license suspended for a variety of reasons. However, with the United States being such a mobile nation, not having the ability to drive can create huge problems for people in daily life. Most people in the North East Oklahoma area commute to work or other important places, with a small number of people relying on bus transit. This results in people driving under suspension. Driving under suspension can cause serious problems beyond just not being able to drive.
Oklahoma Law and Driving Under Suspension
As in most states, Oklahoma requires you to have a valid license in order to operate a motor vehicle. This is a necessity to drive on any street, highway, road, etc. So, when you have lost your driving privileges you cannot legally drive on any of these places.
The Oklahoma Statute addressing this is Title 47 § 6-303. In order for this to apply to you, you must be driving at the same time you have a suspended license. This does not apply if you had a suspension and then a reinstatement.
First Conviction: This is a misdemeanor charge and has fines reaching $500.00. You may also spend a year in prison if you harm someone or are driving in a reckless manner.
Second Conviction: This is still also a misdemeanor charge. However, fines may now reach $750.00 and again a possible prison sentence.
Third Offense: Again, this is a misdemeanor. Fines will increase to a possible $1,000.00 and a prison sentence of one year is possible.

You can expect also to have suspension time increase if you are driving under suspension. Each offense generally comes with a 3 month increase in suspension time. Again, making the initial problem of needing to drive and not having the legal ability to, last even longer.
